Week 1 Earth Path Reflection:
Meaning of Awen
1. What places in nature inspire you? I feel very inspired by heavily wooded places that have rivers and/or streams running through them. I have spent a lot of time in a specific wooded area next to a stream and that is where I have done my best and most productive thinking, writing, planning and creating. Another type of place that really inspires me is the ocean. I lived by the ocean for a short time. Being a midwestern girl, this was something very new and intense for me. I found that the ocean gave me a new type of energy and inspiration that I had never had before. I wrote like never before.
2. Do you have a favorite outdoor place? Why? I don't have a specific favorite place right now. I know I love the woods and I love water. Specifically moving water. I once had a favorite place, but it no longer exists. When I was young I lived on a highway. On the other side of my home was a lake. My sister and I weren't allowed to walk anywhere so I would go out onto a very old seawall that went straight out into the lake. I would sit out there for hours reading or writing. I did this as often as I could for 13 years.
3. How does nature inspire you?? Nature inspires me in so many ways. In my writing, nature has inspired my rhythm and the subject of many poems and prose pieces. Nature has also really, really inspired my photography. My favorite and apparently my best photography is nature photography. I also let nature inspire how I run my home. I make my own green cleaning products and body care products. We recycle every possible thing that we can. Nature has inspired where I considered moving to and what car I purchase and whether I walk or drive. Nature has been a huge part of inspiring many decisions I make in my day-to-day life.
